Wine Route – Afluente Rural Community includes Gumiel de Izán, La Aguilera, Gumiel de Mercado, Sotillo de la Ribera, Pinillos, La Horra, Olmedillo, Anguix, Roa, Pedrosa de Duero, Valcabado de Roa, Boada de Roa, Quintanamanvirgo and Guzmán, located in the southern area of Burgos province, in Ribera del Duero.

Average population of these villages is 500 inhabitants. Their economy is based on Agriculture (wheat, barley and sunflower), and especially wine. The main grape varieties used to produce the prestigious Ribera del Duero wine are Tinta del País or tempranillo and Albillo

Sheep breeding is also important: “lechazo” (young lamb) production is the basis of typical gastronomy of the area, as well as milk used to produce tasty sheep cheese.

In order to get better results in rural tourism, the Community is improving its services, premises and activities: swimming pools, exhibition halls, sports centres, libraries, museums, etc. In addition, the main tourism infrastructures are being developed.

The History of these towns and villages starts, in some cases, with the Bronze Age. We can find it in their architecture, popular traditions and in their Historic Archives.
