The Wine Route Community is located in an area with three main economic activities: wine, grain growing, and stock breeding, mostly lambs. Therefore, the two most traditional and popular gastronomic products are wine and lamb.

Lechazo is a very young lamb, about 10-12 kilos, fed only with maternal milk: Its white and tender meat is very tasty. The most known lamb is from the churra breed, with a Geographic Protected Qualification.

There are two main ways of coking it and both are quite simple: roasted in a wood oven or grilled. The roast in a wood stove is usually prepared with a quarter lamb that is placed in an earthenware casserole with only salt, water and a few drops of lemon. The meat and fat from the animal does the rest.

As for the grill, it is prepared in chops and placed over vine stick wood (the vine sticks that are pruned and dried).

Both dishes may be prepared for any type of celebration or social event: family, friends. Or they may be tasted in restaurants or grills in the area, and are also typical in cellars in most towns.

Pork products are also very popular in the area. It is not in vain that there used to be a slaughtering tradition. Today there are several family factories that make stuffed products, blood sausages, paprika sausages called chorizo, Navarro sausages, bacon, etc., that are also grilled, fried or in simple dishes, such as sausage in wine.

There is also an interest for game animalsthat are prepared stewed, such as hare, wild boar, rabbit, partridges, pigeons, quail, or also pickled, mostly birds and rabbit.

Picking mushrooms, nuts and berries is also very popular. Raspberries or blueberries, as well as nuts and almonds, served as desserts with cottage cheese and quince or honey, or used to make several sweets. These, of course are season products.

Sheep are bred not only for their meat. Milk is used to make excellent sheep cheese. There are several family cheese factories in the Community.

Excellent traditional breads are baked, mainly hogazas and the olive oil cakes.

As to the desserts, the highlights are several pastries and buttered cakes.
